A clinical observation was made on 535 cases of drug intoxication admitted to the Seoul Red Cross, Hospital during the past two years from August 1976 to July, 1977 and the observed results weresummarized as follows.
1) The incidence of drug intoxication among in-patient to the medical ward was 10.6%.
2) Female was more prevalent than male with a. ratio of 1.8:1 , in sex´ distribution and the highest: incidence of age group was in third decade of agein both sex.
3) The most common cause of drug intoxication. was suicide(80.0%) and the others were unknown, accident, spray in orders.
4) The most common drug of drug intoxication. was sedatives (31.2%) and the others were rod. enticides, insecticides, miscellaneous, Unknown in orders. And the highest incidence of single drug was 66 cases of RH-787.
5) Main clinical manifestations were impairment, of consciousness, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, and convulsion. Major physical abnormalities weredecreased temperature, increased pulse rate, ine e￡ ased blood pressure and miosis of the pupil inmost cases. The above symptoms and signs were moreprominent in,insecticides intoxication. Particularly, glucosuria ´and hyperglycemia were observed in rodenticides(RH-787) intoxication and leukocytosis was observed in insecticides intoxication.
6) Complications were developed in 23.2% among 535 cases and A he most common complication wasdiabetes mellitus, the others were aspiration pneumonia, psychosis, pharyngo-laryngitis, paralyticileus in orders. The highest frequency of diabetes mellitus was´ due to RH-787.
7) The overall mortality rate of total cases was 8.7% and mortality rate was most prominent in insecticides intoxication (12.0%)
